SALT LAKE CITY -- A new Utah commission studying ways to improve government operations and public services is set for its first meeting.
The Advisory Council on Optimizing and Streamlining State Government will meet June 30 at the Utah State Capitol.
On Wednesday, Gov. Gary Herbert named former State Auditor and Lt. Gov. Val Oveson to chair the 19-member council.
The council is comprised of elected officials and government agency directors along with business and community leaders.
The study group was formed through legislation passed during the 2011 General Session.
Herbert says the council's aim is to consider ways to improve state government through agency consolidation, reducing costs, incorporating best practices and streamlining services.
