OGDEN — The Utah National Guard’s 54-year-old armory in Ogden just got a $1.1 million face-lift.

Swallow names two top deputies

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Attorney General-Elect John Swallow has filled two top positions on his staff.

Kirk Torgensen, who, with Swallow, has been one of two chief deputy attorneys general under Mark Shurtleff, will be the sole chief deputy attorney general under Swallow.

Former Utah National Guard Adjutant General Brian Tarbet will become general counsel for the office.

Torgensen has overseen the attorney general’s criminal divisions, plus child protection, child support and commercial enforcement divisions, since he was appointed by Shurtleff in 2001.

Utah guard officer testifies security weak at Libya embassy

WASHINGTON — State Department officials said Wednesday that security levels at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, were adequate for the threat level on the anniversary of 9/11 but that the compound was overrun by an “unprecedented attack” by dozens of heavily armed extremists.

The 10 a.m. ceremony at the headquarters building will change the command of Camp Williams from Col. Edward W. Willis to Col. Clark R. Roberts.

KAYSVILLE — For the past 12 years, Maj. Gen. Brian L. Tarbet has led the 7,000 citizen soldiers and airmen of the Utah National Guard through multiple wars, natural disasters, global events and civil emergencies.
