Police: Phone was distraction crash that killed USU student

LOGAN -- An ongoing investigation shows an 18-year-old Utah State University student was distracted by a phone when she died in a January crash in Idaho, minutes after posting on Facebook.

Once-bankrupt business makes good on donations to schools

OGDEN -- Business students at Utah State University and the University of Utah will have more help when they look for careers or seek money for college.

FJ Management, formerly known as Flying J, is donating a total of $3.5 million to business schools at the two universities.

The company made the announcement Monday morning at the Flying J Museum in Ogden, with company officials, university representatives and students on hand to celebrate the occasion.

OGDEN — FJ Management, formerly Flying J, is donating a total of $3.5 million to business schools at the University of Utah and Utah State University.

Wildlife crossing structures save lives, hides

LOGAN -- If Utah drivers take the high road and wildlife takes the low "road," everyone gets home safely.

Patty Cramer helps design underpasses and overpasses that help prevent collisions between drivers just passing through and the moose, elk, mule deer and smaller animals moving around in their home habitat.

The Utah State University wildland resource research assistant professor determines where underpasses or overpasses are needed based on past collisions and her surveillance footage.

Utah program has $400K in grants for new tech companies

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development recently approved more than $400,000 of grants in support of new technologies that universities and licensees are seeking to commercialize to help build companies, create jobs and drive economic development in the state.

USU frat disciplined in underage incident

LOGAN -- A Utah State University fraternity is on a one-year suspension after an underage girl suffered alcohol poisoning following a party during homecoming week.

The school's Greek Council says the Gamma Epsilon chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha will be banned from having alcohol and must pay a $500 fine to the council, which is composed of representatives from the college's fraternity and sorority community.
