FARMINGTON — The Davis County Fair is still months away, but county officials are already booking acts and securing sponsorships.
An annual tradition in Davis County since 1929 and typically the largest annual event held in the county, the fair will be held Aug. 18-21.
Davis County Legacy Events Center, a multiuse facility featuring a state-of-the-art, climate-controlled arena and more than 22,000 square feet of exhibit space, will again host the fair.
At the Davis County Commission meeting Tuesday, fair officials announced a few of the headline acts scheduled to participate in this year’s fair.
Officials said the popular demolition derby competition will be back in 2010, and the county has reached an agreement with Intrepid Motor Sports to sponsor the event.
“The demolition derby is an event a lot of people like,” said Dave Hansen, director of the Legacy Events Center. “During the past four or five years, we’ve sold out every night.”
The county has also reached agreements with Pro-Tour Freestyle Motocross for a performance that will take place on the night of Aug. 19 and be a ticketed event, and with Murphy’s Guitars, a Bountiful-area business that will sponsor the second annual “Davis County’s Got Talent” event.
Megan Hatch, Davis County fair coordinator, said organizers work on bringing in a mix of old favorites and exciting new acts to the fair.
“We try to book new acts or attractions each year to keep the fair fresh,” she said. “Keep the people returning.”
Hatch said the fair’s target market is young families in Davis County, and entertainment and attractions are suitable for all audiences.
County officials estimate fair attendance will be 44,000 over the four days.
“We had a lot of success with the fair in recent years, and it seems to be getting bigger and better,” said Commissioner Bret Millburn. “It’s good to see folks coming back again.”
Admission to the fair is free, with the exception of one ticketed event each night, and parking.
