OGDEN — A 13-month-old boy died Thursday afternoon after choking on a carrot.
The child was taken by medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City after emergency personnel were called to 950 N. Washington Blvd. just before 5 p.m., Ogden Police Lt. Dave Tarran said.
The family had stopped to buy groceries, Tarran said, and as they left northbound on Washington Boulevard, the baby was given a carrot to eat and began to choke.
The family stopped the vehicle while the boy’s father tried to remove the carrot from his mouth, but the child had inhaled it and continued to choke. Ogden and Harrisville emergency personnel responded and called for the medical helicopter, but the baby was pronounced dead approximately an hour later by a physician at Primary Children’s, Tarran said.
The family is from out of the country and visiting friends in North Ogden, Tarran said.
