SALT LAKE CITY - Utah's outstanding philanthropists and volunteer leaders will be honored at the 2010 Utah Philanthropy Day luncheon this month.
Each year since 1999, the Utah Nonprofits Association and the Utah Society of Fund Raisers have honored leaders in philanthropy by presenting these service-oriented people with awards at a gala luncheon. This year's event will be at Little America Hotel, Thursday, Nov. 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Five prestigious awards honor the various components of the critical link between supportive philanthropy and thriving, creative nonprofit organizations that respond to community concerns and the need for change. The 2010 awardees include:
Philanthropic Leadership Award - Spencer F. and Cleone P. Eccles
Foundation Spirit of Giving Award - Willard L. Eccles Charitable Foundation
Corporate Spirit of Giving Award - Park City Mountain Resort
Outstanding Young Volunteer Award - Justin Jarman
Norma Matheson Outstanding Volunteer Award - Scott C. Ulbrich

In addition, member organizations of the Utah Nonprofits Association and Utah Society of Fund Raisers honor an individual or couple with a 'Heart & Hands Award.' This distinction recognizes those who make significant contributions through volunteer or philanthropic service. Each Heart & Hands Award honoree receives a pin, a certificate, and special recognition during the Philanthropy Day luncheon.
This year's honorary chairs are Carol and John H. Firmage III, who were awardees in 2009. The Firmages were recognized for their history of generosity and outstanding civic and charitable responsibility. Their personal gifts of direct financial support continue to inspire others to take leadership roles in philanthropy. Ken Verdoia, KUED-TV's Director of Production, will once again emcee the luncheon.
