SALT LAKE CITY -- The Salt Lake City mayor's office says Chevron is expected to begin purging residual crude oil from a troubled pipeline Thursday morning.
The two-day effort will remove oil between a pump station at Hanna and the company's refinery as part of repair work supervised by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
Officials say 500 barrels of oil spilled near Red Butte Garden earlier this month in the same area where 800 barrels spilled in June. Crews kept most of the crude from reaching Red Butte Creek this month.
After the latest spill, the city hired an independent expert to conduct an inspection and review of the Chevron pipeline and its operations.
The pipeline is currently out of service and awaiting repairs.
