Officials probing inmate death at Southern Utah jail

HURRICANE, Utah -- Authorities in southern Utah are investigating the death of a jail inmate inmate found dead in his bed at the Purgatory Correctional Facility in Washington County.

Chief Sheriff's Deputy Jake Schultz tells the Salt Lake Tribune of Salt Lake City that investigators found no sign of foul play after the man was found unresponsive in his cell during a 5:30 p.m. Monday security check at the Washington County facility in Hurricane.

Schultz says there wasn't any obvious trauma on the man's body, and no indication he killed himself.

The inmate's name, age and hometown weren't immediately made public, and Schultz wouldn't say where in the jail he was being housed.
