HARRISVILLE -- A 3-year-old girl died early Thursday morning from injuries received in a car accident Wednesday afternoon.
The girl has been identified as Aubrey Joe Anderson. Harrisville Police Chief Max Jackson said the child was riding in a vehicle with her mother, 26-year-old Plain City resident Brandi Lee Stilke.
Stilke was northbound on U.S. 89 about 2:30 p.m. when she veered right, up onto a sidewalk, and into a vacant lot. The car continued toward a business parking lot at 1140 North and hit a patch of decorative boulders.
Anderson was riding in a car seat at the time of the accident. She was flown to a Salt Lake City hospital in extremely critical condition, and died just after 2 a.m. Thursday.
Jackson said the cause of the accident is still being investigated.
"(Stilke) told us she blacked out prior to the accident," he said. "We believe that substances are involved. We won't know to what extent until a full toxicology screen is conducted."
Stilke was taken to McKay Dee Hospital after the accident and treated for a fractured hip.
Jackson said it is too early to tell if Stilke could face criminal charges in relation to the fatal accident.
"Once we get the entire investigation complete, get the toxicology and autopsy results, we'll submit to the county attorney for review," he said.
