LOGAN— The former treasurer for the Lions Club in Paradise has pleaded guilty to stealing money that was supposed to go towards an popular annual summer festival.

WEST VALLEY CITY — Newly released police records show that Utah officials believe Josh Powell likely killed his wife and that his brother, Michael Powell, helped dispose of the body, but authorities felt they didn’t have enough evidence to prove that theory in court.

Suspect escapes Wendover police car by climbing out window

WEST WENDOVER, Nev. — A Salt Lake City man who briefly escaped from Nevada police by climbing through a patrol car window is behind bars in West Wendover on a series of drug and escape charges.

Police started pursuing 24-year-old John A. Ramirez-Juarez Monday morning after he ran a stop sign on Wendover Boulevard.

He eventually pulled into a casino parking lot, was handcuffed and placed in the police car.

However, police say he took advantage of an unlocked window and climbed through back onto the street before officers apprehended him again.

Reward offered in arson of Ogden LDS Church chapel

OGDEN -- A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for setting fire to an LDS Church chapel located at 1590 13th Street.  

Cedar City man jailed for assault at party

WEST VALLEY CITY -- Josh Powell reportedly had an affair just months before his wife disappeared and his brother may have been "heavily involved" in getting rid of her body, Utah police revealed as they announced they couldn't solve the sensational case.

No injuries were reported in a 5 p.m. crash Monday that left three cars damaged. Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said two vehicles were involved in road rage that resulted in slowing the traffic behind them at Mile Marker 353, just north of Pleasant View, northbound on Interstate15. Johnson said the road-rage vehicles left the scene, but three cars that were slowed by the incident were then involved in rear-end crashes. The drivers of two of the crashed vehicles were cited for following too close. A Jeep, a Toyota Carolla and a Saturn all were involved in the incident.

Police seek cause of Saturday accident

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Saratoga Springs police are trying to determine the cause of a three-vehicle accident that sent six people to the hospital over the weekend.

The accident shut down traffic on SR73 through Saratoga Springs about 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Recovering USU grad walks to get diploma

A Utah State University student recovering from a climbing accident managed to stand from her wheelchair and walk across a stage on crutches to accept her diploma.

Brittany Fisher, 22, of Naperville, Ill., was rappelling down a cliff in Southern Utah in the middle of the night when she lost control of the rope.

She completed her studies during physical therapy. She was given a standing ovation recently during the graduation ceremony.
