SYRACUSE -- A resident has been honored for his action in minimizing the potential danger associated with a DUI case.

The city council recognized Jason Duke for his efforts in promoting public safety in a late February incident in which he followed a drunken driver from Layton to Syracuse along Antelope Drive.

Duke called police and trailed the vehicle, keeping dispatchers updated as to its location. The impaired driver was eventually pulled over near 1700 South near Glen Eagle Golf Course after making a U-turn into oncoming traffic and leaving the roadway several times.

Police Chief Corey Wallace said a 3-year-old child was in the vehicle.

"He did a lot to protect people's lives as well as the person we stopped," Wallace said of Duke.
