Parowan police chief apleads not guilty to shooting dog

CEDAR CITY  -- The Parowan police chief has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of obstructing justice and official misconduct related to the shooting death of a dog.

The Salt Lake Tribune says Chief Preston Griffiths entered the plea in a Cedar City courtroom on Tuesday. He's due back in court on June 7.

Neither his attorney nor the prosecutor on the case would comment after Tuesday's plea.

The Spectrum of St. George reported Wednesday that prosecutor Patrick Finlinson has denied requests for more specific details about the allegations, including police records.

Finlinson says the records are protected and won't be available until after criminal proceedings are concluded.

A city resident alleges the 43-year-old Griffiths misled her about the slaying of her dog last summer.

Griffiths is still on the job.
