LAYTON -- After a few days' search, Layton Police arrested a man they say swung a knife at a couple who caught him breaking into their car.
Raymond Joseph Emmett was arrested around 3:15 p.m. Monday. Police worked on leads since the day of the crime, said Layton Police Department Lt. Garret Atkin.
Detectives tracked Emmett, 32, to an address in Layton, and the arrest was made without incident, Atkin said.
Emmett was booked into Davis County Jail for aggravated robbery.
Police responded to a 911 call at 5 a.m. Thursday in the area of 600 W. 2400 North in Layton. The couple living there told police they heard a horn honking, looked out their window and saw the dome light was on in one of their cars. They went outside and a man was inside the car, going through a purse. The couple closed the driver's side door, but police say Emmett threatened them from inside the vehicle and exited from a different door. Out of the car, Emmett started swinging the knife at the couple, police said.
According to the court website, Emmett has an extensive criminal history, including an aggravated assault conviction in 2006.
