SALT LAKE CITY -- Duchesne County has received about $428,000 from the federal government for cleanup of an illegal oil dump into the Strawberry River.
The Deseret News of Salt Lake City reports the Environmental Protection Agency reimbursed Duchesne County for its cleanup efforts after 1,500 gallons of crude oil was dumped into the Strawberry River in September.
The final amount does not include $70,000 to $80,000 in initial cleanup costs before the EPA was notified. It is also about $30,000 short of expenses that were submitted for reimbursement due to some clerical errors.
The Duchesne County Sherriff's Office is offering a $10,000 reward, provided by local oil companies, for anyone who has information that would lead to the arrest of those responsible.
