Man faces charge of voyeurism in mall restroom

LAYTON -- A 22-year-old man is facing voyeurism charges after following a 17-year-old girl into a public restroom at Layton Hills Mall, police said.

Evan Franklin was arrested by Layton police and booked into Davis County Jail on suspicion of one count of voyeurism, a class B misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a class C misdemeanor.

Police were called to the mall at 12:30 p.m. on Monday after receiving a call that a fight had started between Franklin, another man and a security officer.

During the investigation, according to a news release, witnesses told police Franklin had followed the teenage girl into the women's restroom and then peeked over the stall door.

When she screamed, he left the restroom. The girl's brother then found Franklin and confronted him.

Franklin left the mall and was apprehended by the girl's brother and a security officer, who detained him until police arrived.
