Balloons remember lost loved ones

OGDEN — About 900 balloons ascended into the heavens Saturday to commemorate lost loved ones.

Meyers Mortuaries invited anyone on its mailing list to attend, as it has every year since the mid-1990s. Almost 300 people showed up at the Meyers Evergreen Memorial Park and received one helium-filled, biodegradable balloon for each person they wanted to honor.

Most attendees also wrote a message or a memory of their loved one on the balloon.

Richard Meyers, park president, said the balloon release symbolizes the soul’s ascension into heaven.
