Searchers locate 2 hikers at Zion National Park

SPRINGDALE -- A park official says search crews have located a pair of overdue hikers in Zion National Park.

Park spokesman David Eaker says 22-year-old Nate Simon and 35-year-old Matthew Files were found about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday while walking out of the Subway slot canyon.

The Barnestable, Massachusetts men were separated from their group at dusk Monday.

A search began Monday evening by the Washington County Sheriff's Office after the other hikers called 911.

Eaker says the men contacted friends by cell phone about 8:30 p.m. to say they couldn't cross North Creek and would stay the night.

The upper portion of the Subway route was closed last week after two hikers were trapped for three days.
