Uintah man accused of forging checks belonging to elderly South Ogden resident

SOUTH OGDEN — A 30-year-old Uintah man has been arrested after police say he stole checks from an elderly person and purchased approximately $18,000 worth of goods.

Dustin Messerly was booked Friday into Weber County Jail on suspicion of seven counts of forgery.

South Ogden Police Officer Marci Edwards said Messerly had been working for the past year as a handyman for a 91-year-old person in South Ogden.

“Messerly allegedly stole and forged seven of the victim’s checks, making various purchases, including a vehicle purchase, totaling approximately $18,000,” she said.

Edwards said that, because of the victim’s age, the Weber County Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case for possible additional charges of abuse or exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
