Utah inmate accused of killing cellmate

DRAPER -- Authorities say a 23-year-old inmate has been charged with stabbing his cellmate to death at the Utah State Prison last month.

Jacob Paul Ecker is scheduled to appear May 31 in Utah's 3rd District Court on a first-degree felony murder charge in the slaying of 27-year-old Alfonso Lopez.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported Friday that Ecker was charged May 5.

The state's two prisons in Draper, about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City, and in Gunnison in central Utah were placed on lockdown for a time while authorities investigated the April 27 fight between the two inmates and several other stabbings.
