Woman rescued after trail gives way

OGDEN -- A Harrisville woman is safe after she injured her ankle on a hike before Wednesday's storms rolled in.

Shauna Iverson, 52, was hiking with her husband on Indian Trail when part of the steep trail gave way and she fell, said Weber County Sheriff's Sgt. Brandon Toll.

At 2 p.m., rescue crews from Weber County and Ogden set out to find the woman, but in the middle of the search and rescue, the first of two storms arrived.

"The lightning was striking multiple times, thunder was rolling, and the rain was just downpouring," Toll said. "Before they got to her, they had to take cover within the trees and not go out in the open."

After that, they hustled because a second, weaker storm was on the way. They got to her two miles up the trail and brought her down to safety. Her ankle appeared to be broken, and she was taken to Ogden Regional Medical Center.
