Residents still question Chevron spill cleanup

SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City residents near the site of a pipe leak that spilled nearly 34,000 of oil say problems still remain one year after the spill.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports the tarlike smell still exists, and rocks are still stained by crude.

Residents are asking why workers seem to not work as often during the winter, when water was low.

Resident Patricia Callahan says you can't put a price on not being able to go into your backyard for a year. She says workers did a lot of surface cleaning, but didn't get all the oil out.

Chevron, the company responsible for the pipeline, has pledged an assessment to examine the area once water levels return to normal.
