Utah Guard battalion deploys for Afghanistan

WEST JORDAN -- About 65 soldiers from the Utah Army National Guard's Second Battalion, 211th Aviation Group are set to head out on the first leg of their 12-month deployment to Afghanistan.

Pilots and crews will leave West Jordan on Wednesday morning in their assigned UH-60 helicopters bound for Fort Hood, Texas. Officials say they'll get a few weeks of training there before heading to Afghanistan for their mission to transport personnel and equipment.

Their departure brings the number of deployed members of the Utah National Guard to about 800 soldiers.
