Hogle Zoo to celebrate elephant's 51st birthday

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah's Hogle Zoo is having a party to celebrate the 51st birthday of Dari, North America's oldest African elephant in an accredited zoo.

The event starts Saturday at the Salt Lake City facility from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At 10:30 a.m., the zoo's elephant keepers will give Dari a birthday treat. The first 1,000 people to arrive for the party will get a free slice of pie.

Guests can also sign giant birthday cards. The zoo will offer crafts for kids and activities for the whole family, including a dancing station.

The zoo will also be celebrating some of its oldest residents, two Aldabra tortoises.
