SALT LAKE CITY -- Prosecutors have filed a murder charge in connection with the death of 20-year-old Salt Lake City woman whose body was found in the hills above a city park in 1986.
The Deseret News of Salt Lake City says 45-year-old Thomas "Peanut" Pennington faces a single count of first-degree felony murder.
Court papers filed Thursday in 3rd District Court say Pennington strangled his ex-girlfriend, Patricia "Smurf" Ramirez on July 28, 1986. Her body was found five days later in the hills above Memory Grove.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill says Pennington is currently in a Missouri prison. He says Pennington is set for released from prison in several weeks and will be extradited to Utah.
It is not immediately clear whether Pennington has a Utah attorney.
