ROY -- A 22-year-old woman died after a car she was in crashed late Friday.
About 11 p.m., a northbound red Pontiac Grand Am went off the road near 4300 Midland Drive, hit a mailbox, took out 25 feet of a chain-link fence and hit a power pole before crashing into a parked truck, said Police Sgt. Kevin Smith.
The car, heavily damaged, ended up on the front lawn of a house.
The woman was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital but died. The male driver was also taken to the hospital.
"Last we checked, he was in serious condition. He was sedated last night, so we haven't been able to ask him a lot of questions yet," Smith said Saturday night.
Police are still investigating but think speed was a factor and that neither person was wearing a seat belt. The driver's blood will be tested to see if alcohol or drugs were involved, Smith said.
The woman's name was not released, pending notification of family. Both the man and woman are from Roy.
