LDS Church temple to open in San Salvador

SALT LAKE CITY -- Officials say the newly completed San Salvador El Salvador Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is now open for public tours.

KSL-TV reports the temple is the church's fourth in Central America and 135th in the world.

The public open house runs through July 23. A church leader will formally dedicate the temple during three sessions on Aug. 21.

After the temple dedication, the site will only be open to actively engaged members of the church.

The church has about 109,000 members in 161 congregations in El Salvador.
