CLEARFIELD -- A motorcyclist died Wednesday night after he collided with three vehicles in a row.
John Porter, 27, of Logan, was driving west on 650 North in Clearfield on his motorcycle when he decided to pass a vehicle in front of him after he turned right onto Main Street, said Clearfield Police Sgt. Lee Potts.
Around 6:09 p.m., as Porter moved into the inside lane to make the pass, he lost control of his vehicle, Potts said.
Porter first struck a vehicle that was traveling south on Main Street and preparing to turn left.
He then hit the vehicle directly behind it, which knocked him off his motorcycle.
"It sent him into the inside lane of southbound traffic, and another vehicle struck him there," Potts said.
Porter was taken by ambulance to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, where he later died.
Porter was wearing a helmet.
Clearfield police are investigating the accident to determine who was at fault and whether anyone should be cited, Potts said.
"It was a little hectic," securing the scene in rush hour traffic, Potts said. "We were there for quite a while" investigating the accident and putting together what happened.
There were plenty of cars driving through and around that intersection, but police were able to direct traffic around the accident scene, he said.
