OGDEN -- A 38-year-old man was arrested after police say he injured a man by biting his pinkie finger while trying to steal a truck.
Johnnie Delgado was booked into the Weber County Jail on suspicion of drinking in public, aggravated robbery and burglary of a vehicle.
Ogden Police Lt. Troy Burnett said the incident occurred just before 9:30 a.m. Thursday when Delgado attempted to steal a work truck from All-American Spas, 3214 Washington Blvd.
He got as far as starting the engine and putting the truck into gear before employees of the spa noticed him and tried to stop him.
"While they were detaining him, he bit a pinkie," Burnett said. "It caused serious injury."
Because of the bite, Burnett said the charge against Delgado was increased from robbery to aggravated robbery.
Witnesses said they saw Delgado carrying and drinking out of a 30-can pack of beer at the time of the attempted robbery, Burnett said. Burnett said there was no indication that Delgado knew the truck owner or anyone who was working at the spa.
