SOUTH SALT LAKE -- A South Salt Lake man is facing a murder charge in the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter.
Authorities say Jazmin Martinez left her daughter with 32-year-old Juan Pablo Rivera-Aguilar on July 5. They say officers were called to the home later that day and found the child unresponsive. She died two days later.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that doctors found bleeding on her brain, bruises on the child's abdomen, chest, back and face, and her spleen and liver were lacerated.
They say Rivera-Aguilar admitted to investigators that he was taking care of the girl when he "lost it" and hit her.
He faces a first-degree murder charge and two second-degree felony counts of child abuse. He remained held. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
