GEORGE -- An inmate in the Washington County Jail has died a week after attempting suicide in his cell.The Deseret News reports authorities are investigating the apparent suicide after 35-year-old David Finch died Sunday at Dixie Regional Medical Center.Finch was taken there the previous Sunday after officials found him unconscious.

After spending time in China while he was in the Marine Corps, Logan native Norman Skanchy observed the Chinese people doing tai chi. He later took his wife back to China in the 90's, and the two took lessons from an 80-year-old master. Skanchy is 88 years old, but is still very active as an artist and tai chi instructor.

A man with a rifle shot and killed Deputy Cory Wride along a highway Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, and wounded another deputy during a chase that stretched over 50 miles before he was caught, Utah County Sheriff Jim Tracy said. Wride had pulled up to a car that appeared disabled near Eagle Mountain when he was ambushed around 1 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff said. Eagle Mountain is a town about 35 miles south of Salt Lake City.
