OGDEN — When many Vietnam veterans returned from war, they were mocked and alienated by their fellow Americans, but one man is doing his best to make sure they finally have a place they can call home.

Lawmakers reflect on time in Vietnam

SALT LAKE CITY — Local lawmakers shared personal experiences as Vietnam veterans on Friday, and the House and Senate passed a resolution to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

Sen. Scott Jenkins, R-Plain City, talked about being hassled while on leave during the war and said he is still amazed by the negative reaction many servicemen faced in coming home from the Asian conflict.

Rep. Richard Greenwood, R-Roy, talked about coming home from Asia and being in San Francisco with another serviceman when someone spit on them.

House committee unanimously passes resolution to honor Vietnam vets

SALT LAKE CITY — Rep. Richard Greenwood, R-Roy, remembers coming home from Vietnam and being spat at in full uniform in San Francisco.

He and other Vietnam veterans shared different tales of their post-war experiences Friday in front of a House committee considering a resolution to honor veterans of the Asian conflict. The resolution, HCR 6, being run by Rep. Curt Oda, R-Clearfield, recognizes the 50th anniversary of the war and those who served in that conflict.

VFW plans party in Ogden for Vietnam vets

OGDEN -- Ogden Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1481 is holding a Spam-intensive welcome home party for Vietnam War veterans.

The party will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the post, 907 W. 12th St., and is designed to create an atmosphere of camaraderie among veterans.

KSL names Dave McCann as new lead anchor

KSL has announced the hire of a new anchor and reporter, Dave McCann, to take over Bruce Lindsay's job as the station's lead male anchor.

McCann, who has spent the past 19 years at KLAS-TV in Las Vegas, is the voice of the Cougars on BYUtv. He will join KSL's team, including Deanie Wimmer, in mid-May for the station's 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts.

Jay Hess of Farmington was a fighter pilot during the Vietnam war.

Utah Vietnam vets break silence in KUED documentary

After more than 40 years of silence, Utah's Vietnam veterans are speaking out about the war, their lives and feelings they have buried for decades.

KUED Channel 7 is airing a new three-part documentary series, "Utah Vietnam War Stories," with part one, "Escalation," at 7 p.m. Monday. It will air several times after that and will be available on the KUED website.

James Robert (Bob) Knight

James Robert (Bob) Knight Jr., born Aug. 30, 1947, in Ogden, died in his sleep Friday, March 2, 2012, at Woodland Park Care Center in Murray. A family memorial will be held at a later date.
