Some worry about safety where path meets street in Pleasant View

PLEASANT VIEW — Concerns about children’s safety have surfaced regarding the way a walking path ends on Pleasant View Drive.

Two former council members, Mae Ferguson and Tim Hjorten, recently brought pictures to city officials to illustrate their concerns.

Vehicles on walking path bother Pleasant View council

Councilman Scott Boehme said there continues to be problems with people driving on the new walking path on Pleasant View Drive and he observed tire marks on it.

Councilman Michael Humphreys said city employees used a backhoe in one area to remove snow and it tore up the asphalt. He said he has also seen delivery trucks to the reception center on Pleasant View Drive using the walking path as a shoulder to turn around.

Pleasant View walking path clear and ready for use

PLEASANT VIEW — The walking path is open, cleared of snow and ready for those wanting to stroll along Pleasant View Drive, said Councilman Jerold Burns, who said he wanted to thank the city employees who had cleared the path.

Leshem’s company, Ogden Riverfront Development, is the main owner of property in the separate Ogden River Project, a planned mixed-use housing and retail complex.

City celebrates cleanup, vibrancy of Ogden River

OGDEN -- An operator of a pizza shop and brew pub on the banks of the Ogden River says his business is riding the tide of success because of a $6.3 million effort to clean up a polluted downtown section of the waterway.

(ANTHONY SOUFFLE/Standard-Examiner) Floodwaters from the Weber River surge onto Serge Simmons Field, the former home of the Ogden Raptors, knocking down the fencing and eroding the riverbank Friday. The bicycle path on the park’s east side has also been destroyed. Because the baseball field is still in bad shape, tournaments and city recreation teams have had to find other parks in Ogden on which to play. Officials say they don’t know if the park will be restored next year because of the cost and ramifications of government regulations regarding the alteration of the river’s flow.

Weber River still flooding Serge Simmons Field in Ogden

OGDEN -- The pain of spring flooding that sent water flowing over the banks of the Weber River is still being felt by those who have traditionally enjoyed recreational activities at Ogden's formerly pristine Serge Simmons Field.

Paved path in Pleasant View attracts walkers, families

The walking path has now been paved on Pleasant View Drive. Councilman Tim Hjorten said he has been running on the path and talked to residents using it.

“I talked to one couple pushing a baby in a stroller, they said ‘This is so cool’,” said Hjorten. “They were excited, they were just plain excited.”
