Couple suspected of spending $18,000 in one-day spree with stolen credit cards

SOUTH OGDEN — Police are looking for a man and woman suspected of using stolen credit cards to go on a one-day, $18,000 spending spree.

Marci Edwards, of the South Ogden Police Department, said the thieves broke into a truck owned by Cameron Williams when it was parked at his home Monday evening. They took two credit cards from his wallet, but left the wallet and cash behind.

The credit cards were used Tuesday to purchase about $18,000 in merchandise, mainly Apple iPads and MacBooks, at several stores in Riverdale and Layton, said Riverdale Detective Joel Pippin.

Zions Bank in Farmington robbed; suspect on loose

FARMINGTON — Police are investigating the Wednesday robbery of Zions Bank in Farmington.

Police were summoned to the bank near the intersection of Somerset Street and Main Street around 5:55 p.m., said Farmington Police Chief Wayne Hansen.

A man told a teller to fill a bag with money and then fled from the bank. He didn’t show a weapon, Hansen said.

Man with gun kicks in door of South Ogden home

SOUTH OGDEN — Police are looking for a man carrying a handgun who kicked in a back door at a home.

The man, who was wearing a ski mask, entered a home on the 3900 block of Evelyn Drive in South Ogden at 1 p.m. Monday. He encountered a woman and fled the home.

No one was injured.

Police do not know what the motive was.

The man is described as about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing between 175 pounds and 190 pounds.

Mich. man wanted for armed robbery, attempted murder turns up in Layton

LAYTON — Police found a fugitive wanted for armed robbery and attempted murder hiding in Layton on Monday afternoon.

Kevin DeWayne Taylor, 27, thought he found a safe place to lay low in Utah, said U.S. Marshals Service Deputy Bobby Arnes, who is with the Joint Criminal Apprehension Team.

“Basically, he came here to get a fresh start,” Arnes said.

More emerges on 'brazen' Ogden jewelry theft

OGDEN — In broad daylight as shoppers walked pass the Morgan Jewelers entrance at Newgate Mall, two men stole 60 to 70 pieces of jewelry in what police are calling a “brazen” theft.

Two men, who appeared to know exactly what they were doing, took less than two minutes to cut the top part of a glass case and leave the store with the expensive loot. The theft occurred around 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the mall, 3651 Wall Ave.

Police are now searching for the men, described as black, in their 30s, and wearing dark jackets and golf caps.

Man caught dozing in North Salt Lake courthouse takes short trip to jail

NORTH SALT LAKE — A man with a $50,000 warrant out for his arrest didn’t realize the place he decided to take a snooze was a courthouse, police say.

North Salt Lake Police Lt. Troy Johnson said the city’s Justice Court is housed inside the city building at 10 E. Center St.

The building opens at 7 a.m., with court beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays. The constable was doing his rounds before 9 a.m. last Tuesday to make sure the building was secure when he found a man asleep on the floor in the conference room.

Bucket List Bandit ID'd after heist in Pa.

The man believed by the FBI to be the Bucket List Bandit may be driving a stolen rental car from Florida, according to a federal arrest warrant obtained by the Standard-Examiner.

Michael Eugene Brewster, 54, has been identified as the elusive bank robber as a result of telephone tip to the FBI’s office in Erie, Pa., on Wednesday, the warrant states.

He remained at large Thursday night.

Bucket List Bandit hits N.C. bank, now wanted in 5 states

ROY — The Bucket List Bandit has struck again, this time in North Carolina.

The robber, nicknamed because he passed a threatening note to a teller at a Wells Fargo Bank at 5603 S. 1900 West in Roy on July 6 claiming he only had four months to live, is now a suspect in a July 20 robbery at the Bank of America in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Based on security camera photos, the robber wore identical clothing in both heists, Roy Police Chief Gregory G. Whinham said Friday.

Man recognizes burglar on surveillance video, persuades son to turn himself in

WOODS CROSS — A father watching a TV news program recognized his son as one of the people wanted in a computer store burglary, police say.

While the two were eating breakfast Friday morning, the father persuaded his son, Jeremy Blair, 26, of Kaysville, to turn himself in to the Davis County Sheriff’s Office, said Woods Cross Police Detective Adam Osoro.

Carjacking suspect is armed, dangerous, say police

LAYTON -- Police are seeking a man who swung a knife at a couple that caught him breaking into their car.

Police are searching for Raymond Joseph Emmett, 32. He is described as a Hispanic male, wearing prescription eyeglasses, with a mustache and goatee. He also has a circular tattoo that reads "STW" on the right side of his neck. He is believed to be armed and dangerous, police said.

Police seek man in kidnap attempt

OGDEN -- Police are looking for a Hispanic male they think tried to kidnap a woman around noon Tuesday.

Lt. Danielle Croyle said a woman in the 400 North block of 400 East told police she went to her neighborhood mailbox at 12:10 p.m.
