Weber County lags in diplomas

OGDEN — A new report from the Wasatch Front Economic Development District shows that Weber County and particularly Ogden are below the regional average in education and employment.

The WFEDD’s Draft Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy report shows that of the five counties within the Wasatch Front — Weber, Davis, Morgan, Salt Lake and Tooele — Weber County has the second-lowest percentage of adults older than 25 with a high school diploma, at 89.1 percent, in front of only Salt Lake County, which has 88.9 percent.

No drought for Northern Utah this spring, forecasters say

OGDEN — NOAA predicts a drought-free spring for Northern Utah’s Wasatch Front.

But the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, in a chart released Thursday, projects that most of central Utah will have drought that persists or intensifies and that, for Southern Utah, a drought is likely to develop.

Snow blankets the sidewalk outside of Grounds for Coffee on Historic 25th Street in Ogden on Thursday. Crews will be filming in the 100 block of the street today and into the early Sunday hours. Area residents are welcome to try to spot stars, as long as they don't impede filming, the producer says. (NICK SHORT/Standard-Examiner)

Residents welcome to try to spot stars during Ogden filming

OGDEN — For people who always flip to the end of books and fast-forward to the end of movies, this afternoon is your chance to catch a glimpse of the final scenes of “The Mistle-Tones,” an ABC Family Channel Christmas movie that won’t debut until December.

Speaker: Utah on better quake footing than Ore.

OGDEN -- Utah is famous as earthquake country, with the Wasatch Mountains serving as an obvious natural marker for the fault line that built them hundreds of millions of years ago.

The earthquake potential of western Oregon was a much better-kept secret until the past decade or two, said Scott F. Burns, a geology professor at Portland State University.

Will urban developments be the future of the Wasatch Front?

If the Wasatch Front Regional Council forecasts come true, Utah's future will be more urban and less suburban.
