Weber sends tons of waste to landfill, recycler

OGDEN — The Weber County Commission has approved the annual reports of the county’s transfer station, landfill and compost facilities.

Director of Solid Waste Gary Laird presented the report, which covered the Weber County Solid Waste facility at 867 W. Wilson Lane and the county compost facility at 2594 W. Pioneer Road.

The report shows that, in 2012, Weber County sent 178,722 tons of municipal waste to the Republic Waste landfill in Tooele County and 18,880 tons to the county’s construction and demolition landfill.

Centerville waste collection fees to increase

CENTERVILLE -- The city recently approved a 5 percent increase in waste collection fees.

The fiscal year 2013 budget had allocated for the increase in fees for solid waste collection, which includes garbage, recycling and green waste, according to city documents. However, the fee required approval by council and this was not done during the budget process.

Because of this, the city council recently reviewed the fee schedule and approved an amendment to incorporate the increase.

Syracuse council still debating board appointments

SYRACUSE — After months of delays and questions, the appointment of city council members to community boards is beginning to take on the appearance of an old Abbott & Costello routine: “Who’s on first? What’s on second?”

Following extensive discussion in a work session Tuesday, the question of local representation on the North Davis Sewer District Board got even murkier — and the potential resignation of Mayor Jamie Nagle from the Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District Administrative Control Board and a new council replacement only added to the confusion.
