ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. -- The Bureau of Reclamation has released water from the Flaming Gorge Reservoir to prepare for the big spring runoff and more releases are expected.
The Rock Springs Rocket-Miner reported Thursday that the release was stopped because flows in the Yampa River grew too large. The bureau said more releases are expected once the Yampa passes its peak flow.
The head of the bureau's water resources group, Malcom Wilson, said flooding is possible downriver, especially below the junction of the Yampa and Upper Green rivers. He said the bureau's main concern is with the Flaming Gorge and Vernal, Utah.
Wilson said he doesn't expect flooding in Sweetwater County in Wyoming.
