Man accused of urging fellow gangster to shoot at Clearfield party

CLEARFIELD — Police have arrested a third person they say was involved in a shooting that injured five people at a party in Clearfield in March.

Dwayne Ace Brown, 25, of Ogden, was booked into Davis County Jail on Wednesday on suspicion of five counts of aggravated assault, one count of discharging a firearm in the direction of a person or building and one count of riot.

Mexico has exactly one gun shop where you can legally buy a firearm. It's on a military base in Mexico City, and it sells about 8,000 weapons a year, mostly small-caliber handguns. Army Col. Raul Manzano says they have 70-100 visitors a day. "The federal firearms law forbids us from advertising so as not to promote rampant gun buying," Manzano said. (Heriberto Rodriguez/MCT)

Mexico, awash in weapons, has just one legal gun store

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the world. If any of the nation's 112 million citizens want to buy firearms, there's only one store where they can do it legally. It's on a sprawling military base and run by the army.

That, however, hasn't stopped Mexicans from acquiring firearms. The country is awash in illegal guns, many of them assault weapons in the hands of merciless criminal gangs. President Felipe Calderon says authorities have seized more than 140,000 weapons since he came to office in late 2006. Many of them, Mexican officials assert, were purchased in the United States.

A poster warning of the effects of the drug known as 'spice' hangs on a wall at the Naval Hospital in San Diego. The U.S. Navy has kicked out a record number of sailors and Marines this year for smoking synthetic marijuana and is seeing a dramatic jump in emergency room visits of its users, including some who babbled or hallucinated for eight days. Pentagon seeks mini-weapons for new age of warfare

Under mounting pressure to keep its massive budget in check, the Pentagon is looking to cheaper, smaller weapons to wage war in the 21st century.

A new generation of weaponry is being readied in clandestine laboratories across the nation that puts a priority on pintsized technology that would be more precise in warfare and less likely to cause civilian casualties. Increasingly, the Pentagon is being forced to discard expensive, hulking, Cold War-era armaments that exact a heavy toll on property and human lives.
