SALT LAKE CITY — A storm with high winds has left thousands of Utah and Idaho residents without power.
Rocky Mountain Power said Wednesday night that 5,000 customers in the southern Salt Lake Valley and another 5,000 between Utah's Tooele County and Rexburg, Idaho, are without power.
A spokesman for the utility says crews are working to restore power to both areas.
The Deseret News reports Interstate 84 is closed in both directions from Interstate 15 to the Idaho border. High winds may also be an issue on U.S. 50 in west central Utah.
That National Weather Service in Salt Lake City issued a "high wind warning" that was in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday. The warning said winds could exceed 60 mph in areas near Salt Lake, Tooele, Iron and Millard counties.
