GARDEN CITY -- Officials say two frozen canals overflowed with snowmelt runoff near Bear Lake on the Utah-Idaho state line, sending water into nearby homeowners' basements.
Rich County emergency manager Bryce Nielson tells the Herald Journal of Logan that snow and ice in the canals contributed to the weekend flooding in Garden City. No injuries were reported.
Nielson says overflows or breaches have happened in several areas.
Garden City water works manager Travis Hobbs says crews are trying to stay ahead of flooding by opening ditches and drainage areas so water can run into the lake.
He says the biggest concern right now is safety of people.
