Weber County Commissioners held a public hearing to consider amendments to the Weber County Zoning Ordinance.

The two Democrats seeking the party nod for the U.S. House District 1 race are already campaigning against the incumbent Republican rather than each other.

Ryan Combe, of Ogden, and Donna McAleer, of Park City, are lashing out at both five-term Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Brigham City, and the Washington D.C., establishment.

"I don't think Rob Bishop even knows who his constituency is anymore," said McAleer, depicting him as a professional campaigner enmeshed in the Washington world of career politicians. "I certainly believe Rob Bishop is vulnerable, and I believe I'm the candidate who can beat him."

Red Cross honors local heroes

OGDEN — In times of crisis, there are ordinary people who step up to help others without looking for reward or praise.

Some run into a burning building to rescue loved ones, others gather to pull victims from a car in a freezing river, while some just wait with a fatally injured woman until help arrives.

The American Red Cross of Northern Utah honored community members who displayed acts of courage and selflessness at the 2012 Heroes Award Event Breakfast on Wednesday at Union Station.

Weber commission approves $500K for corridor preservation

OGDEN — The Weber County Commission approved spending up to $500,000 from corridor preservation funds during its Tuesday morning meeting.

The funds are part of a cooperative agreement between the county and the Utah Department of Transportation for a project involving Interstate 84 and Highway 89.

The total price tag of the project is almost $2 million.

OGDEN — Former Ogden police chief and state Sen. Jon Greiner is back in the political arena, filing his candidacy for Weber County Commission Seat C.

Also filing for the seat are fellow Republican Matthew Bell, chairman of the Weber County Republican Party, and Democrat Corey Combe.

OGDEN — Jon Greiner, former Ogden police chief and state senator, has filed for a seat on the Weber County Commission.

Incumbents file early in Weber County

OGDEN — Weber County’s first filers in the 2012 election were mostly incumbents, including several legislators who made it down despite being up late Thursday night for the Legislature’s final day in session.

Friday was the first day to file for elective office in Utah, ranging from the U.S. Congress to local school boards and county commission seats.
