Investigation continues in case of 4-year-old special-needs child with high level of alcohol

MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE — Residents of an apartment complex are puzzled how a 4-year-old girl who uses a wheelchair was able to consume alcohol Thursday and be rendered unconscious.

“There is no way she could get alcohol by herself to drink,” said Lorie Castillo, who lives at 1045 S. 1200 West, Apartment 40, adding that the girl resides in Apartment 42.

Weber deputies can wear badges acknowledging military veteran status

OGDEN — A chance encounter in a parking lot has led to an opportunity for Weber County sheriff’s deputies to wear special badges proclaiming they are veterans of the United States military.

Sheriff’s vehicles at West Haven school for training

WEST HAVEN — The Rocky Mountain Junior High School parking lot was filled with Weber County Sheriff’s vehicles from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

Friday was a short day at the school, with staff and students let out at 12:30 p.m. This allowed the sheriff’s training to go on during the afternoon.

Deputies participated in “Active Shooter Training” at the school to stay current on their skills in the event they are called out to an incident.

Teen driver fails turn, crashes into Washington Terrace house

WASHINGTON TERRACE — A teenager drove his red Honda Civic into a house Tuesday morning after failing to negotiate a turn.

Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Lowther said the house at 187 E. 4700 South in Washington Terrace received some cosmetic damage, but the car was totalled.

OGDEN -- The Board of Commissioners of Weber County recently presented the Seal of Service award to Weber County Sheriff’s Deputy Landry Roskelly.

Roskelly received the award for his work as an emergency medical technician in the Weber County Sheriff’s Office Medical Department.

ROY — A car crashed into a parked school bus at 3550 West and 5500 South, about 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Police are seeking information on who vandalized a Davis County Sheriff's Office D.A.R.E. car  and the garage door of a a Weber County sheriff's deputy early Saturday morning. SOUTH OGDEN — The shiny red D.A.R.E. car, a 2007 Saturn Sky, is now covered with black spray paint, which will cost thousands of dollars to remove and repaint.

“We have these cars for the kids and the community,” said Davis County Sheriff’s Deputy Cole Thon, the D.A.R.E. officer at West Point Junior High School.

The car’s D.A.R.E. motto, “To resist drugs and violence,” is barely visible under the black paint. Black paint also covered the car’s windows and hubcaps.

 West Haven misses deadline for sheriff's contract

WEST HAVEN — The city of West Haven is the only municipality currently contracting with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office that hasn’t approved a new agreement for continued law enforcement services.

The deadline for cities to accept new contracts was Friday, said Weber Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Klint Anderson.

Washington Terrace, Huntsville, Uintah, Plain City, Marriott-Slaterville, Farr West and Hooper have agreed to new contracts, either verbally or in writing, Anderson said. The municipalities don’t have their own police departments.

PLAIN CITY — Council members gave the nod for law enforcement service to the Weber County Sheriff’s Department, at least for the next fiscal year.

Sergeant helps free moose from swingset

HUNTSVILLE — A Weber County sheriff’s sergeant cut a moose loose from a swing set that it was trapped in.

Sgt. Lane Findlay came to the scene after a passerby saw the moose with its antlers tangled in the swing set of a Causey Estates cabin on Sunday afternoon. Because wildlife officials were an hour away and the moose was in distress, Findlay approached the moose with a pair of cutters to free it from the chains himself. After about three minutes and several attempts to get close to the moose, Findlay freed the full-grown bull from its bonds.

Four thieves who hit Weber cities 'trailer-dwelling doper lowlifes,' sheriff's officer says

OGDEN — Police arrested over the weekend, a group of thieves made its way through the northwest area of Weber County.

The thieves never did anything dangerous. They just tried car doors, opening the unlocked ones and snatching items from the front seat.

After following up on a warrant, Weber County sheriff’s deputies and Ogden police arrested at least four people they say were involved in the group responsible for a rash of vehicle burglaries and identity thefts Friday and Saturday.

Weber County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse keeps history alive

OGDEN — To research the history of horsemen and their influence on society, one doesn’t have to do much more than watch the Weber County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse.

Known for its performances and support of the Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo, the posse is celebrating its 70-year anniversary.

But even when it was organized in 1942, the posse had a flavor of the past.

Weber vehicle burglaries prompt warnings to close garage doors, lock vehicles

OGDEN — The Weber County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging residents to close garage doors and lock their vehicles after removing the keys following a spate of burglaries over the last 40 days.

There have been as many as 15 such burglaries in the county in a single night, Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Lowther said Wednesday.
