OGDEN -- A group of organizations in Weber County has put together a workshop to address the needs of fathers.
Dads Really Are Wonderful (DRAW) was formed under the leadership of the Ogden Weber Community Action Partnership.
"Fatherhood funding used to be available from the federal government and has since dried up, but our organizations knew there was still a significant need so we formed a group in September to have activities, classes and support for all fathers in our community," said group organizer Laura Traum.
The workshop will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Marshall White Center, 222 28th St. A free dinner and child care will be provided.
Workshops will include co-parenting strategies to learn about different parenting styles and the importance of fathers, which will discuss how critical fathers are in a child's development.
Kyle and Kenna Toone will be the keynote speakers.
"Everyone can be a better father, so we should learn as much as we can on how to be great," said Kyle Toone.
The couple will discuss five traits that make an ideal father: self-awareness, fathering skills, parenting skills, relationship skills and caring for self.
"I believe children have a better future when they have an involved father," said Kenna Toone. "All it takes is a will to be better and the rest will follow."
The workshop is open to the public. RSVP can be made by contacting Kelly Johnson at 801-399-9281 ext. 345 or through e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The group is also looking for organizations which would like to participate, volunteers for the committee and funding.
