Water main break near Weber State damages roadway

OGDEN — Crews were working this afternoon to repair a broken water main at 4600 South just east of the Dee Events Center at Weber State University.

The break occurred around 2 p.m., but the cause hasn’t been determined, said George Benford, the city’s public works director. Water from the broken line caused damage to about 600 feet of roadway.

All of the student housing at Weber State University south of 4600 South was without water as well as some parts of the Forest Green subdivision Wednesday afternoon. Benford said he didn’t know how many people were affected by the water break.

Some buildings on Weber State campus were also without water Wednesday afternoon.

The broken section of the pipe was removed and will be replaced possibly returning water service sometime tonight, said Benford. Road closures will be in effect through Thursday on 4600 South from the Dee Events Center to Taylor Avenue, said Benford.
