OGDEN — The Bengals slowed the Wildcats down but couldn’t stop them.

WSU softball drops pair to open season

ST. GEORGE — The Weber State women’s softball team put up a valiant fight during its first two games of the season, but came up a little short of snagging a win during opening day.

The Wildcats fell 6-0 to Loyola Marymount in the first contest, and then dropped an eighth-inning heart-breaker 2-1 to Oklahoma State in their second game of the day during the Red Desert Classic at St. George’s Canyon Complex.

Wildcats ready for scrapper in rematch with T-Birds

OGDEN — If the last meeting between Weber State and Southern Utah is any indication, prepare for ugly.

The Thunderbirds went to a hack attack to try to slow down the Wildcats on Jan. 10 in Cedar City, sending WSU to the free throw line 49 times, though it wasn’t enough to stop Weber State from claiming an 81-74 victory.

Wildcats head south to open 2013 softball season

The fourth season of the new era of Wildcat softball gets under way this weekend, with the Weber State set to participate against a prestigious field at the Red Desert Classic.

The Wildcats will throw their first pitch at 11 a.m. today against Loyola Marymount at St. George’s Canyon’s Complex. Weber State will also take on Oklahoma State at 1:30 p.m., and then will face Nevada and Arkansas on Saturday, before wrapping up the tournament against former Pacific Coast Softball Conference Mountain Division rival Seattle on Sunday.

OGDEN — Weber State football coach Jody Sears wants his 2013 football recruiting class to be tough.

“From a character standpoint, from a cultural standpoint, we’ve got to build the toughness of this football team,” he said. “We’ve got to have playmakers.”

OGDEN — After a four-game home stand that included a couple of near misses, the Wildcats will hit the road for the first time in two weeks when WSU travels to Cedar City to play Southern Utah in Big Sky Conference women’s basketball action on Thursday night.

Wildcats to visit Oral Roberts for Bracketbusters game

OGDEN — In the final year of the Bracketbusters, the Wildcats will be headed to Tulsa.

Weber State will take on Oral Roberts in an ESPN Ramada Bracketbusters game. The Wildcats and Golden Eagles will meet on Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in Tulsa, Okla.

The game is 'slowing down' for hot-shooting Frank Otis

Weber State senior forward Frank Otis was already leading the Big Sky conference in shooting percentage before he went 22 of 28 from the field in his last three games.

In that same stretch, Otis — “Mook” to his friends and fans — also tallied the three highest scoring totals of his career, going for 17 points against Montana, 20 against North Dakota and 15 against Northern Colorado.

Wildcats aim for happy ending to long road trip

GREELEY, Colo. -- Weber State has only one item left on the agenda to wrap up its four-game business trip.

After starting the second half of the Big Sky Conference regular season with a win, now the Wildcats are aiming to start a winning streak as they face Northern Colorado tonight.

Wildcats' losing streak stretches to 39 games

OGDEN — Things aren’t getting any easier for the Weber State women’s basketball team.

Looking for their first win since December of 2011, the Wildcats hosted North Dakota at the Dee Events Center on Thursday night in the hopes of putting an end to their 38-game losing streak.

Otis, Berry help Wildcats outgun North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Weber State has never lost three conference games in a row under seventh-year head coach Randy Rahe.

The Wildcats weren’t about to change that Thursday at the Sioux Center.

WSU women hope to build on narrow loss

OGDEN — The Weber State women’s basketball squad hopes for a warming trend this evening.

On the heels of perhaps their best game of the season, Bethan Ord’s Wildats will host North Dakota in Big Sky Conference at 7 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
