Fire scorches 100 acres in Morgan County

A Morgan County man burning weeds Thursday afternoon lit up about 100 acres near Interstate 84, a Utah Division of Forestry spokesman said.

“(The fire) got away, ran up the hill and continued to go,” said Jason Curry, division fire information officer. “We’ll be investigating for any need for criminal charges. We won’t release any names until then.”

Box Elder County accepts grant for eradicating noxious weeds

BRIGHAM CITY — There’s a new resident in Box Elder County, and it has been sent an eviction notice.

The yellow starthistle has sprung up in two areas of the county — at the Box Elder and Weber county line near Rocky Point, and within Brigham City, said county weed supervisor Bill Gilson.

Time to weed out some of the anti-government hysteria

I worry that the “all government is evil” rant that is popular right now is getting out of hand.

Normally I ignore ranters, but when they run really outrageous stuff in the paper, one has to say something. As history has shown, left unchallenged anything can and will be believed.

A letter to the editor published last week in this very newspaper caught my eye. It said the latest example of socialism destroying our nation is the use by Box Elder County of government money for weed control.

Forest Service issues reminder about weed-free feed in public lands

OGDEN — The U.S. Forest Service is reminding visitors to public lands that, if they take horses or other animals needing feed, they should make sure the hay, straw or mulch is certified free of noxious weeds and seed.

Volunteers to pick dyer’s woad today

EDEN — Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. today at Snowcrest Junior High, 2755 N. Highway 162, to help collect dyer’s woad, a noxious plant.
