Lantern House receives $10,000: Wells Fargo's money to go for kitchen, supplies

OGDEN — A $10,000 donation from Wells Fargo Bank is the latest stepping stone Lantern House has collected in its capital campaign.

According to campaign organizers, the fundraising effort currently is at almost $6 million of the needed $7 million to build the new shelter, a new home for what is now St. Anne’s Center.

The Wells Fargo donation is earmarked for kitchen equipment and supplies.

12 protest Wells Fargo practices during SLC meeting

SALT LAKE CITY — A dozen people protesting Wells Fargo’s mortgage policies disrupted a shareholders’ meeting Tuesday and one of them tried to make a citizen’s arrest of CEO John Stumpf.

Private security guards escorted away the man who tried to make the arrest, along with others who spoke out of turn, said Wells Fargo spokesman Ancel Martinez.

Police say they made no arrests in or outside the Grand America Hotel, where about 30 demonstrators lingered to air complaints about Wells Fargo’s consumer lending and mortgage practices.

Two accused of robbing Ogden bank face federal charges, 20 years in prison

OGDEN — A federal grand jury has indicted two men in connection with a February heist at a Wells Fargo Bank.

Indictments for bank robbery against Lonny Joe Swanson, 44, of Salt Lake City, and Michael Kent Mooney, 47, of Uintah, were handed down last week in U.S. District Court.

The pair are being held in Weber County Jail. Swanson’s initial appearance in federal court will be Thursday, while Mooney’s first appearance will be Friday.

Vickie McCall is receiving the Wall of Fame award from the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce. The Wall of Fame honors those who have made major contributions to the community over time. McCall, a Realtor with Utah Executive Real Estate, started with the Ogden-Weber Chamber 35 years ago.
