Box Elder's Jensen signs with Wildcats

OGDEN -- Weber State women's golf coach Jeff Smith recently announced the signing of Kristie Jensen from Box Elder High to a letter of intent.

"Kristie is a talented player in multiple sports, and we are very happy to have her joining our program," Smith said.

Jensen was the No. 2 golfer for the Bees starting in her freshman season, and led the team the past two years. As a junior and a senior, she earned all-state honors, placing fourth at the state tournament both years.

Prep notes: Purser, Thomas finish 1-2 at golf invite

Overcoming a day of wind and rain, Syracuse senior Devon Purser birdied the par-5 "Lakes" hole at Hidden Valley Country Club Monday to beat teammate Jonathan Thomas and claim the boys trophy in the sixth annual Hidden Valley Country Club Senior Golf Invitational.

Purser shot a 27-hole total of 106 for a four-stroke victory over Thomas.

"We played the last hole in pouring rain -- we just got out of there as fast as we could," said Purser, who will play at Brigham Young University beginning this fall. "The course was in awesome shape though -- except for the weather."

Krystkowiak hires Connor as Utah assistant; O'Brien released from scholarship

SALT LAKE CITY -- New Utah men's basketball coach Larry Krystkowiak added a top assistant in Westminster's Tommy Connor but lost a second player not yet sold on the program.

The school announced Friday that freshman J.J. O'Brien was granted his release. That decision comes just three days after leading scorer and rebounder Will Clyburn asked for his release.

Clyburn said he wanted a year away from the game so his body could mature and develop. O'Brien said he simply wants the opportunity to weigh his options.
