'Unusually high number' of pertussis reports

CLEARFIELD -- An "unusually high number" of pertussis reports involving school-aged adolescents have put area health officials on heightened alert.

During the past few weeks, Davis County Health Department has seen a high number of pertussis cases, said Bob Ballew, county health public information officer.

And Davis County is not alone.

12th whooping cough case confirmed in Cache County

LOGAN -- Health officials say they've confirmed the 12th case of whooping cough in a Cache County outbreak that started earlier this spring.

Whooping cough outbreak leads to increased vaccinations

OGDEN -- The Weber/Morgan Health Department has seen a dramatic increase in immunizations since the recent outbreak of whooping cough at Mount Ogden Junior High School.

There have been seven documented cases of the highly contagious disease in students and employees at the school and two others elsewhere in the Weber-Morgan Health District.

OGDEN -- Some parents who choose not to vaccinate their children are feeling frustrated and angry about the way they were notified of a whooping cough outbreak in a city school last week.

More than 65 Mount Ogden Junior High School students were sent home for being underimmunized or on immunization exemption -- for personal, religious or medical reasons -- on Oct. 24, when one student case of whooping cough was confirmed.

OGDEN -- Sixty-five unimmunized students from Mount Ogden Junior High School were sent home for at least five days Monday morning after the school was notified that one of its students had been diagnosed with whooping cough.

Whooping cough infects 4 in Cache County

LOGAN -- About 100 elementary school children in Cache County have been told to stay home until further notice after four cases of whooping cough were confirmed, health officials said Friday.
