OGDEN -- Utah wildlife officials are proposing changes to elk hunting that could result in greater chances for trophy bull hunters and more opportunities for those who just want to take an elk.

The fish finder showed 25 feet of water, with a moving bottom. Up and down, with changing colors to go with it; first green or yellow, then turning to red and back again. That meant fish on the bottom, and likely perch at that.

About this time of year I get a bad case of cabin fever. Laying out my calendar for the year, I book up every free weekend and some of the days in between with ATV adventures. By the middle of August I realize what I have done to myself and resolve to be better next year. Maybe I should look for an ATVaholics Anonymous and try their 12-step program. On the other hand, why fight it?

If I'm birding and thinking about Neapolitan ice cream -- chocolate, vanilla and strawberry -- I must be looking at gray-crowned rosy finches.

Bison on the move from Henry Mountains to the Book Cliffs

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is moving bison from an established herd in the Henry Mountains to a smaller herd in the Book Cliffs. The bison are taken to Antelope Island and weighed, checked by a veterinarian and some of them have tracking collars placed on them before they are released back into the wild.

ANTELOPE ISLAND STATE PARK -- For the past several weeks, this island on Great Salt Lake has served as a temporary home for some of the state's largest residents.

POWDER MOUNTAIN -- For the third straight year, dozens of skiers and snowboarders who like to go for the really big air will descend on Ogden Valley and Powder Mountain this month to showcase the high-flying sport of snowkiting.
