Singing Starbucks employee fired over YouTube video

CHOWCHILLA, Calif. -- YouTube's latest rising viral star just lost his job. Christopher Cristwell, 25, is making national headlines after he posted a video of himself on YouTube singing about his job at the Chowchilla Starbucks.

In this Monday, Sept. 12, 2011 image taken from video, a group of people tilt a burning BMW up to free Brandon Wright, on his back on the ground, who was pinned underneath after he collided with the car while riding his motorcycle on U.S. 89 in Logan, Utah. Authorities said Wright was riding his motorcycle near the Utah State University campus in Logan when the 21-year-old collided with the BMW that was pulling out of a parking lot. Tire and skid marks on the highway indicate that Wright laid the bike down and slid along the road before colliding with the car, Assistant Police Chief Jeff Curtis said. (AP Photo/Chris Garff)

LOGAN — The students knew they had to act quickly when they disregarded the dangers of approaching a smoking car and rushed to help lift it so a man — trapped beneath with a motorcycle just feet away in flames — could be freed.

Abbass Sharif remembers only that something needed to be done as he, a fellow Utah State University doctoral candidate and more than half dozen others lined up on one side of the 4,000-pound car. They were able to lift it within moments, allowing one of the rescuers to pull Brandon Wright to safety.

Missing children the focus of online video series

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- When teenage runaway Lara Snyder bumped into Scott Davis in the Cumberland County Justice Center lobby, she didn't recognize him.

"You probably don't know me," Davis recalled telling the 15-year-old girl who'd been missing for months and recently returned home to her mother's Crossville, Tenn., residence.

But as Davis spoke, the teen's eyes grew big.

"I know your voice," Davis said Lara told him. "You're the guy who did the show on me on the Internet. I watched it while I was running. I didn't think anybody cared."

By day, Davis works for the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office as the sex offender registry compliance officer.

By night, he runs an international online series in an attempt to gain exposure for missing children throughout not only Tennessee, but the world. The program, "The Missing," broadcasts on the Internet via YouTube and is shared with similar sites, including Facebook.

Jury finds mother not guilty of urging daughter to fight

FRESNO, Calif. -- A jury took only two hours Wednesday to find a Fresno woman not guilty of urging her daughter to fight a 13-year-old girl -- even though her actions were captured on a YouTube video.

On the video, Carla Jimenez is seen circling the two combatants and telling her 12-year-old daughter, "Swing, baby, swing!" She then shouts out the F-word when someone tries to stop the fight.

When the verdict was announced in Fresno County Superior Court, Jimenez appeared stunned, holding onto the defense table for support.

The mother of the 13-year-old -- Cecelia Cerda -- bolted from the courtroom before Judge Gary Orozco thanked the jury for its public service.

"I'm upset," Cerda said afterward. "I just can't believe it, because she admitted to everything."

Study finds many graphic YouTube self-harm videos

CHICAGO -- YouTube videos on cutting and other self-injury methods are an alarming new trend, attract millions of hits and could serve as a how-to for troubled viewers, a study warns.

Many videos show bloody live enactments or graphic photos of people cutting their arms or legs with razors or other sharp objects, the study found. Many also glamorize self-injury and few videos discourage it, the study authors said.

They also feature haunting music and rich imagery that may attract young self-injurers and trigger the behavior, especially in those who have just started to self-injure, the authors suggest.

Pilot who posted airport security video steps forward

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The pilot who posted a cell phone video on YouTube revealing potential loopholes in airport security identified himself Monday and said he is "pretty shocked" by the national uproar he has caused.

Chris Liu, a 50-year-old Colfax, Calif., resident and 27-year veteran pilot, said in an interview with a Sacramento television station that he never imagined his "little video" of what he felt were lax procedures at San Francisco International Airport would get much attention.

The video, posted Nov. 30, has since been pulled from YouTube, and Liu has been stripped of his role in a federal anti-terrorism program that allowed him to carry a handgun while flying. His story has been covered by media across the country including local outlets, CNN and Fox News.
